What is FASHION exactly? Recently, this question has been floating around in my mind. Take a look around you and flip through magazines, what do you see the rich and famous wearing? Labels. yes.
the question is, do labels make a person fashionable?
(personally, i dont think so.)
dont get me wrong though, i love fashion and i love dressing up more than anything else in the world. hey, im a female. and further more, who doesnt want to look awesome and stunning? i love clothes, shoes, bags, accessories.. putting an outfit together. mixing and matching my stuff. try new styles. its fun and almost satisfying to look at yourself in the mirror before you walk out the door, and see that person staring back at you looking like a star.
being in a fashion class, i noticed that these people around me have THE EYE. when i say that, i mean they can tell where you bought your entire outfit from just by looking at you for two minutes. well, i dont have that ability. because all along, fashion to me has always been nothing about where the clothes come from. it has just been about wearing what i think looks awesome.
and sometimes, it does annoy me to no end when i hear someone telling people the labels that, in my opinion, wear them. you must be confused with what i just typed and no, my english isnt that bad. i do mean it exactly the way you read it. these people are not wearing clothes, the clothes are wearing them.
again, im not against labels or expensive fashion. i just dont worship them. you dont have to be decked out in labels to look fashionable, your entire outfit could cost you less than 50 bucks and yet look like a million dollars as long as you know how to put it together.
my biggest fashion icon and inspiration is my mum. she looks awesome and stunning in anything. and im not saying that just because she’s my mother. im saying that because it is a fact. and anyone who disagree with that, should seriously get their eyes checked. she has always told me,
its the person who wears the outfit, carry yourself well, you will shine.
i now understand fully what she meant by that. especially more since i have been around certain company.
i do vaguely remember telling my mum that she’ll look good even if i made her wear a potato sack and both of us were tickled pink just by the thought of it. i did actually try to picture her in a potato sack and honestly, she still looked pretty damn awesome. pair it with a rhinestone studded waist belt, nude slim heels and maybe a dark-brown clutch. her hair almost always look perfect. and there you have it. my mum wearing a potato sack and looking absolutely smashing in it. if i really had to break down the cost of the total outfit.. well, i’ll do an experiment soon enough. *so stay tuned for it. might be the next big thing. HAHA!!
okay. i know i strayed a little out of topic. whatever. my point is, just because its branded, DOES NOT make it fashionable. just because your dress or top is branded, does not make you any more fashionable than someone else who is wearing something that cost less than 10 bucks. and just so you know,
that girl wearing the brand-less outfit, looks way better than you will ever look.
why?
just because she makes the clothes on her back look like a million bucks, while you are just the hanger for the clothes.
oh, and just to shut you up about me describing my mum as though she is a goddess, here are a few pictures of her..

YES, that is my mum with me and my friends.

just in case you were wondering where my mum got her looks from, the lady in the middle is my grandma (mum's mum) so, yeah. and she is ancient. doesnt look like it now does she? HAHA!! presenting the 3 generations.

SHE LOVES ME
SO YEAH, sorry about that. i went a little crazy with picture postings of my mum. but pretty sure you got my point that she is hot and awesome. haha. point made and proven.
alrighty. so i have shown you my biggest fashion influence in life and.. also told you what i think about it.
if i do have other thoughts floating through my mind on this topic again someday, i might just do a sequel to this. HAHA!! ( you know you want me to)
and no, i have not forgotten. i will go do the potato sack thing and take photos. so stay tune people.
yours truly,
calista faye
