Here you are, thinking who are your true friends, but in reality, nobody cares enough to think about it, that is until they really need help. The thing is, you are thinking of WHO YOUR TRUE FRIENDS are, but what if the one that would actually, as quoted, “drop everything that they are doing and rush to be by your side,” is actually one of those people whom you didn’t list as your true friend? Kinda beats the purpose of writing down who your true friends are, because you may not know that, they don’t think they are your true friends.

I myself have walked this path before, thinking of all the friends I have, those I truly think are my true friends, close friends, and whatever countless categories I could fit them into. But at the end of the day, if they don’t feel the same way, where does that put your selection? I have, per your quote, dropped everything I was doing and rushed to be by someone’s side, but yet they were grateful you helped them that very time, and cease to remember you once the situation tides over. It’s happened to me so many times that I don’t know what to conclude anymore.

With that said, I think everyone deserves to be treated the same, be it close friends, “true” friends, whatever friends, they are STILL friends. Give an old friend a hello, a text or a call, and you may find it surprising that they still remember.
